Optical Illusion: Paper weaving

Activity:  Paper Weaving. This is a form of Op Art and is easy to make. First fold your piece of paper in half and with a ruler create a stopping point across the top. Cut lines from the fold to the stopping point, they can be straight, curvy or any other kind of line as long as they are not too close. Then cut strips out of a different paper. Make sure these lines go the opposite way as the first lines. After the strips are cut weave them through the first piece of paper, over, under, over, repeat until the paper is full.

Extension:  Paper weaving is a form of Op Art. Op art can be seen in a lot of places. Talk about famous artists of this art form like Bridget Riley and, if possible, take students to an Optical illusion or play museum.
