Value:

How light or dark a color is. Darker is shade; lighter is tint. This shows help shape and form and can be seen in the sky. Upper left hand side is darker than the lower right hand side. 







Space: 

3D volume that can be empty or filled and has height, width and depth. It can also be 2D and us illusions to seem 3D by overlapping objects to make one seem bigger or closer. 






Balance: 

How visual weight is placed in art and when it equal, it is balanced. There are two types: Symmetrical, when both sides have the same things, and Asymmetrical, when each side has different things but are still equal. Having a big book on one side and two small books on the other is asymmetrical balance.  


Contrast: 

A difference of elements in art. The elements are not similar and create excitement in the art. A common element used in contrast is color. One side is colorful, the other is bland colors, this creates contrast. 







Movement

Repeated elements that generally move your attention to a focal point. Movement works with Rhythm. Reeds pointing in the same direction indicate wind and move your vision to one side of the art.
