Weaving Heritage

Activity: This is straw based yarn weaving. In this specific activity; take 4 straws and space them out a little so they are not touching and tape them together at one end. Pick out some yarn and tie one end to the taped side of the left most straw. From there weave the yarn through the straws in an over under back and forth pattern keeping the yarn tight and close to each other. When the yarn is close to the top, tie it down on the same straw you originally tied it to. After this you are going to push 4 strings through the straws tying them off at then end without the tape. Then slowly push the yarn off the straws and tie off the other side of the strings.

Extension: This activity only created a small weave, however these can turn into something big. If you want to go bigger, you can get more or longer straws and create scarves or blankets using the same technique. However to make something that is bigger you will have to slowly slide what is created off of the straws as your are creating more.
